FAQs

1. What are the materials you use ?

Our pens are crafted from a range of materials, including ebonite, acrylic, premium acrylic, resin, and metals such as brass and titanium.

For our premium range, we make the base pen in ebonite or acrylic and then enhance it with multiple layers of lacquer, gold foiling, gold dusting, hand carving, painting and chiselling - thus creating exquisite Urushi finished pens that combine durability with timeless artistry.

2. Which nib is compatible ?

All our pens are JoWo compatible. Depending on the model they are fitted with either a JoWo #5 or JoWo #6 nib unit. This allows you to easily swap the nib with any compatible aftermarket nib designed for the corresponding JoWo housing.

3. Which ink is recommended ?

We recommend using regular ink colours like blue, black and green as they are generally gentler, compared to bright colours that are highly saturated or harshly staining.

We suggest choosing inks from trusted brands like:
Waterman, Pilot, Pelikan, Parker, Camlin, Bril, Sulekha (Blue), Krishna inks and Daytone premium inks.

4. What are the filling mechanisms ?

Most of our pens feature a versatile 3-in-1 filling system, supporting cartridges, converters and eyedropper/ direct barrel filling.

Our 2-in1 models are compatible with both cartridges and converters only.
Some models come equipped with a built in piston filling mechanism.
Please refer to the specifications listed on each product page for further clarity.

5. How do I maintain my pens ?

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS :

1. Before, inking a pen for first time, it's important to completely clean the pen. This cleaning will ensure that any grease, factory oils or sanding dusts are completely removed.

2. Clean the inside of barrel by running it under clean tap water to clean if eyedropper is used.

3. In order to clean the section, it can be kept soaked in a small bowl of water, to which you have added 2 or 3 drops of dishwasher liquid and 2 or 3 drops of hand-wash liquid. The liquid when felt with fingers, must be soapy.

Leave the section in this liquid for 4 hours at least.
After 4 hours, flush the section under flowing tap water, till all soap is removed.
Dry it in room atmosphere.

This will have to be done each time before refilling or changing inks, or if you are planning on not using the pen for over a week.

4. Apply a small speck of “Silica Grease”, to the threads. (Be careful only a small speck, needs to be applied to threads of section. Take care it does not touch or come in contact with Feed or Nib.)

The above method will ensure free flow and enhanced performance always.

6. Where do I get spares ?

We are always happy to help with spare parts. Since ASA Pens are designed and manufactured in-house, spare parts are readily available/ can be made for most models.
